Why is Starting the New Year with a Vision Board Such a Big Deal?
My 2025 vision board
It’s no secret that setting intentions or goals is a common New Year ritual. But did you know that combining the visual aspect of a vision board with writing down your goals is a proven way to amplify their effectiveness? Here’s why this powerful combination works:
Visuals Speak Louder Than Words
Our brains are wired for visual processing—we can process images 60,000 times faster than text! Looking at vibrant, compelling images on a vision board is far more engaging than reading a static list of words. Visuals help you imagine your goals as already achieved, making the experience exciting and motivating.
Vision Boards Evoke Emotion
While writing down a list of goals can feel task-oriented, a vision board triggers deeper emotions. The colors, images, and symbols you choose can spark joy, hope, and excitement—emotions that fuel your commitment and keep you inspired to take action.
A More Engaging Way to Stay Focused
Let’s be honest: what are you more likely to revisit—a written list of goals or a visually appealing board that makes you feel the emotions behind your intentions? Vision boards are not only a daily reminder of your goals but also a source of inspiration that keeps you aligned with your fulfilling dreams.
Creates a Whole-Brain Experience
When you combine the creative, intuitive power of your right brain to design your vision board with the analytical, structured capabilities of your left brain to write down your goals, you engage your whole brain. This integrated approach amplifies your results! Many of my clients tell me that this process makes them feel more connected, intentional, and deeply committed to their goals.
Vision Boards for the Win!
Creating a vision board isn’t just about hanging a pretty collage on your wall. It’s about tapping into the power of visualization and emotional connection to manifest your intentions and build a more fulfilled life for you. It’s never too late to create a vision board, it doesn’t have to be at the start of the year. In fact, doing one every quarter will help you see your progress and develop more focus for your journey’s goals.

For 2024, I did not do a vision board. Looking back, I wished I had! Sometimes, I can get distracted and frustrated at the same time. If I had a ”visual pep talk” to put things in perspective it would have been very helpful! Dr. Lucia Capacchione’s book, “Visioning”, is a specific approach to creating a vision board. In doing this current vision board, I found it to be a fantastic and refreshing way to intuitively tap into inner knowledge.
